It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of John Dean Archer (Dean, Dino and Arch) on Tuesday, July 26th in his 77th year. Dean was predeceased by his parents Orval and Vera Archer; nephews Todd Trafford and Warren Leonard; Brothers-in-law Fred Prier and Bill Elliott; and Sister-in-law Betty Prier. Dean will be sadly missed by his wife Marilyn (Prier) of 54 Years and his loyal companion and protector Rosie; his son Dean Jr. (Francine) Kirkland Lake; his daughter Tracey (Greg Keyes) of London, On.; Sisters Bettyann Elliott of Uxbridge, On; and Jane (Paul) Burrows of Salmon Arm, B.C. Sisters-in-law: Beverly (Ian) McIntyre of Burlington On.; Blanche (Jack) Murnaghan of Branchton, On.; Donna (Dale) Trafford of Peterborough, On.; Sherry (Mike) Carston of Kirkland Lake, On.; and Sheila Prier (Dino Longo) of Kirkland Lake, On. Dean will be greatly missed by seven wonderful grandchildren; Shawn, Scott, Jayme and Adam Keyes; Alexandra, Emma and Nicholas Archer; and many nieces and nephews. Dean owned and operated Archers Dairy for many years and was very active in the community. He acted as President of Rotary; President of the Curling Club and the T. & N. O. Association; he served for a short time on the Kirkland Lake Council; and spent many years on the Public School Board as Chairman. Dean was Chairman of Northern Telephone; appointed to The Farms Product Marketing Commission of Ontario; was chairman of Ontario Dairy Council; and President of the Northern Ontario Dairyman's Association. There will be a memorial service for Dean at Trinity United Church on Saturday, July 30th, 2011 at 11:00 am with a luncheon following at Hockey Heritage North. Donations may be made in Dean's memory to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada. Dean's ashes will be placed with his parents in the Kirkland Lake Cemetery at a later date.
